BROSELEY -- After a disappointing showing in the first round of the Lady Royals Classic, No. 4 seed Doniphan rebounded Monday to put away No. 12 seed Senath-Hornersville 63-33.
In other consolation games, Sikeston beat Charleston 51-40, New Madrid knocked off Kennett 52-20 and Malden beat East Carter 67-35.
The quarterfinals tonight feature Naylor and Greenville at 5:30 p.m. while top-seeded Dexter faces the host to start the day at 4. Kelly, the second seed, meets Clearwater while Neelyville will look to pull off another upset against No. 5 Portageville in the final game.
"Naylor is really tough," Greenville coach Diane Meier said Saturday. "We know that."
On Monday night, the Donettes turned up their defensive pressure, forcing 31 turnovers. On the offensive end of the floor, they converted easy baskets when they got the chance and used turnovers to create runs to break the game open.
"We've been pretty good defensively this year," Donettes coach Jimbo Blackwell said.
Jaysa Blackwell led the Donettes with 16 points while Swindle scored 10 of her 13 points in the first half.
The Donettes opened the second half with a 9-0 run to put the game away as Cassey Hart hit a pair of 3-pointers and Chelsea Swindle hit another. That burst of accurate jumpers followed a half in which the Donettes failed to connect on a 3-pointer and found most of their offensive success in the paint.
"We played two quality teams in this tournament," Senath coach Jamie Johnson said.
The Donettes struggled in the first quarter, turning the ball over seven times. However, they used their speed to get high-percentage shots and crashed the boards.
Defensively, they forced the Lady Lions to take tough shots and gave up few second opportunities at the basket.
"We were really more intense early in the game," Blackwell said. "In the second half we got out and pressured."
Malden 67, East Carter 35: The Lady Redbirds showed improvement but suffered the loss as the Lady Wave's hot 3-point shooting helped them build an early cushion.
The Lady Wave held a 12-3 lead after only 3 minutes, led by the accurate shooting of Trilla McCoy, who hit four 3s in the half when she scored 18 of her 22 points.
"Our shot was on from the outside," Malden coach Chris Hicks said. "Trilla really stepped up. I'm proud of her." Kristen Stroup added 20 for the Lady Wave, who forced 25 first-half turnovers
Malden led 40-19 at halftime. Laura Nance led the Lady Redbirds with 10 points.
"I saw big improvements tonight," East Carter coach Kacie Bradshaw said. "We're starting to be aggressive on defense."
Sikeston 51, Charleston 40: The Lady Bulldogs held off a late charge to advance to the consolation semifinals.
The Lady Bluejays scored 10 straight points late in the fourth quarter to pull within 47-40, but couldn't complete the comeback. The Lady Bulldogs held their largest lead at 17 points before the run.
"We got a little disorganized down the stretch," Sikeston coach Homer Jackson said.
Amber Minner, who scored a game-high 19 points, hit a 3-pointer to spark a 7-0 secondquarter run for Sikeston that gave them the lead for good after a quick Charleston start. Minner's shot tied the score at 15-15 with 6:09 remaining in the half.
"New Madrid's speed would be a good test for us," Jackson said of his team's next opponent.
New Madrid County Central 52, Kennett 20: The Lady Eagles opened the game with a big first quarter and never gave the Lady Indians a chance to catch their breath, breezing to the victory.
Jasmine Flennoy, Shameika Williams and Jasmine Beasley took turns scoring key baskets for the Lady Eagles in the first half as the Lady Indians tried unsuccessfully to stop them. The trio combined for 41 points.
