Consolation 1: Ware's basket lifts Advance past Chaffee

Advance sophomore reserve Matt Ware grabbed an offensive rebound and banked it in with just seconds to go to give his Hornets a 59-58 victory over the Chaffee Red Devils.

The Hornets led 10-6 early in the first quarter but did not take the lead again until Ware scored to begin the forth quarter.

Chaffee got a big game from senior Jerod Steger, whose 22 points was a game high, but was unable to convert at the free throw line, making just 12 of 22 attempts during the game. The Red Devils were 7-for-13 in the final period.

The Red Devils led 58-54 with 1:12 to go after Andy Hendrix made the second of two free throws. Jacob Bond then hit a 3-pointer to pull Advance within one point. Bond hit three 3-pointers during the game on his way to scoring 18 points.

After a timeout by Advance coach Joe Shoemaker, the Hornets stole the inbound pass but were unable to convert on multiple attempts at the basket. Eventually, Chaffee recovered the ball and called a timeout of its own. However, a walk was called on Hendrix, giving the ball back to Advance and leading to the game-winning shot by Ware.

Chaffee was able to get one more look on the offensive end but Jerod Steger's 3-point attempt fell off the rim, and Advance was awarded the ball out of bounds with just 1 second remaining.

Ware finished with 11 points for the game, all coming in the second half. David VanGennip also scored 13 points in the game.

The Hornets picked up their first win in seven games.

Andy Hendrix netted 14 points for Chaffee, which fell to 4-4.
