East Prairie shocks state-ranked Hayti

HAYTI -- The East Prairie Eagles stunned state-ranked Hayti " on the road Friday 66-49.

"We are extremely pleased with the way our kids played tonight against a very good Hayti team," said East Prairie coach Matt Schonoff. "I think this is the best game we've played all year."

With the win, East Prairie moves their record to 9-9 on the season and have now won four of their last five games.

Hayti, ranked No. 5 in Class 2, led 25-23 at the half but East Prairie rebounded in the third quarter and retook the lead 47-43. The Eagles then ran away with the game in the final quarter, outscoring Hayti 19-6.

Tony Jones led East Prairie in scoring with a game-high 26 points while M.C. Williams added 14. Scot Davis and Ryan Jones each scored 11.

Shawn Jones led Hayti (13-3) with 13 while George Hamilton and Jamestic Gooden scored 11 and 10 respectively. Hayti was held to 23 percent shooting on the night. East Prairie will be back in action on Tuesday when they host the Puxico Indians.

STODDARD COUNTY TOURNEY

Bell City 62, Puxico 32

BLOOMFIELD -- The Cubs won the SCAA tournament in Bloomfield behind another strong performance by Nick Niemczyk. Bell City's standout senior guard scored 34 points, including seven 3-pointers, in the victory. Ethan Watkins added eight points, including a pair of 3s, in the win.

Bernie won the third place game 89-85 while Dexter claimed the junior varsity championship.

Oran 84, Leopold 71

LEOPOLD -- The Eagles went 30-of-39 from the line and put together a 35-point fourth quarter to knock off the host Wildcats. Kody Campbell poured in 35 points, while teammate Cody Romas added 21 in the win. Leopold's Darren VanGennip had 30 points, including four 3-pointers, in the losing effort.

Charleston 79, Kennett 49

CHARLESTON -- The Charleston Bluejays improved to 12-7 with a 79-49 conference win over Kennett Friday night. Charleston jumped out to a 21-6 first quarter lead and never trailed again. The Bluejays were led by Donald Dixon's 22. Brian Parham and Terrell Smith chipped in 18 and 10 respectively.

Poplar Bluff 56, Cape Central 49

POPLAR BLUFF -- The Mules scored the first 12 points of the game and led by that many at halftime. The Tigers rallied behind a trio of 3-pointers by Anthony Watts in the third quarter, pulling within 41-36 heading into the final quarter.

Jajuan Bell, who scored 21 to lead Central, hit two free throws with 4 minutes left that cut Poplar Bluff's lead to four. The Tigers came up empty in two possessions to pull closer and missed a one-and-one opportunity with 1:13 left before Poplar Bluff closed the game by hitting six straight free throws.

Watts finished with 11 points for the Tigers (10-11, 2-2 SEMO) while Chase Johnson added nine. Riley Raulston scored nine of his game-high 23 points in the first quarter for the Mules (8-11, 2-1).

Saxony Lutheran 72, Delta 25

DELTA -- The Crusaders pitched a shutout in the first quarter, opening an 18-0 lead.

Garrett Ruppel drilled five 3-points and finished with 17 points to pace Saxony (14-4). Zach Bohnert and Max Wieser added 13 apiece in the win. Chase Rhodes led the Bobcats with 11 points.

Scott City 70, Meadow Heights 47

SCOTT CITY -- Jay Simmons drained five 3-pointers and finished with 27 points to lead the Rams. Alex King added 18 points and Caleb Estes netted 10 for Scott City (13-4). Dustin Hubler led Meadow Heights with 13 points.
