DYERSBURG Tenn. -- The Lady Raiders won two close games over Dyersburg State on Wednesday afternoon, 4-1 and 1-0.
"Both we scratched in Three Rivers coach Jack Childress said.
In the first game the Lady Raiders (11-10) got the scoring going in the first inning. Kaci Menz walked to start the contest and stole second before she later scored on a Cortney Ostendorf sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.
The bats went silent for Three Rivers until the sixth inning. With two outs Ostendorf singled and later stole second scoring later on a single by Leslie Taylor. Taylor scored on a single from Maegan Booker to make it 3-0 and Booker came around on a triple by Wendy Eftink that made it 4-0.
Dyersburg State scored in the top of the seventh inning to set the final score.
Chelsea Claypole went the entire game for Three Rivers on the mound. She had six strikeouts and allowed four hits while walking just two in the win.
In the second game, the Lady Raiders also wasted no time getting on the board. After Menz and Lindsey Landles were set down Ostendorf singled and later scored the lone run of the game on a Taylor single.
Three Rivers kept its slim lead in check in the sixth inning. With two outs Ostendorf threw out the would-be tying run at home plate for the third out.
"It was a bang-bang play and we got the call," Childress said.
In the last inning, Dyersburg State had runners on second and third before Menz caught a line drive and threw back to Taylor to get the double play.
Kaci Smith pitched a complete game for Three Rivers to earn the second win of the day. She had five strikeouts and six walks in the winning effort.
"Our defense was there our pitching was there for the most part but our bats were limited," Childress said. "But hey, we'll take them any way we can right now."
