ADVANCE -- The Bloomfield Wildcats got off to a strong start Wednesday against Advance and improved to 2-1 on the season with a 10-5 win.
The Wildcats scored three times in the first inning and tacked on four more runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Bloomfield starting pitcher Andrew Wilson struggled in the first inning walking four, before settling down and allowing only two walks over the final six innings.
Wilson finished the game with four strikeouts and allowed five runs, two of them earned, on seven hits.
The Wildcats got good production from the top of their batting order as the top four hitters combined to 9-for-16. Leadoff hitter Dylan go Ferguson went 4-for-5, including a single to start the game.
Jacob McNeil followed with a single of his own and added a stolen base before Kyle Williamson drove them both across the plate with another single. After Williamson took second on the throw home Tony Shaffer scored him with a single.
"The top of the order really picked it Bloomfield coach Dustin Hicks said. "They were a little more patient and once we got up, it set the tone."
Dexter 4, Kelly 1
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the fifth inning, the Bearcats responded by scoring three in the bottom of the inning to beat the Hawks.
Ben Mills led off with a single and Travis Noe and Matt Banken walked to load the bases. With two outs, Tyler Scott hit the ball past a diving rightfielder for a single that cleared the bases and gave Dexter a 3-1 lead.
Scott went 1-for-2 on the day and scored three runs.
Eric Windham allowed one run on five hits and struck out eight to pick up the win for Dexter, which improved its record to 2-0.
"Both pitchers threw the ball well " Dexter coach Brian Becker said. "We were fortunate to get scoring opportunities."

Bloomfield 12, Advance 2
The Lady Wildcats got doubles from Lindsay Levitt and Taylor Fuwell as part of a total team effort at the plate. They also made the most of their opportunities on the bases to manufacture runs.
"All of our girls did a great job running the bases," coach Starla Pulley said.
