Oran, Chaffee baseball teams remain unbeaten

ORAN -- The Oran Eagles (3-0) routed the Clearwater Tigers on Wednesday afternoon.

On a no-hitter by Steven Dooley the Eagles were lifted past the Tigers 14-0 in five innings of play.

Dooley faced 17 batters in his five innings of work, striking out 10 while allowing only two walks.

Oran scored early and often getting on the board in the first with one run. However, in the second, the Eagles' bats really came alive with six runs. This would be followed up in the third with six more runs before the home team tacked on a final run in the fourth inning.

Kody Campbell led the way for the Eagles with two home runs, five RBIs and four runs. Tyler Beardslee also went yard for the Eagles while droving in four runs. Alex Chasteen and Jake Carter each had two hits and two RBI's, respectively, while Jayden Pobst had two hits and one RBI.

Oran's next game will be this afternoon when they host the Wildcats of Bloomfield at 4 p.m.

Chaffee 7, Delta 1

CHAFFEE -- The Chaffee Red Devils baseball team improved to 4-0 Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Delta Bobcats 7-1.

"We hit some balls hard, but Delta made some good plays so you have to give them credit," said Chaffee coach Brian Horrell. "It was a well-played game."

Russell Gardner got the win for Chaffee, throwing six innings while allowing only one earned run on three hits and one walk. He struck out 10. Aaron Horrell pitched the seventh striking out two.

Delta's Tyler Martin picked up the loss.

Chaffee 14, Scott Central 4

CHAFFEE -- The Red Devils continued play Wednesday night when they took on the visiting Scott County Central Braves. Chaffee would pull off the doubleheader with another victory, beating the Braves 14-4.

"It was a good ballgame for our kids," said Horrell. "It was good to see our bats come alive after the Delta game and we got a good look at several players."

Andrew Dooley was credited for the win after pitching two shutout innings while SCC's Mark Freed recorded the loss.

Chaffee (5-0) will travel to Leopold Friday to take on the Wildcats while the Braves (0-1) will visit the Richland Rebels at 4 p.m.

Leopold 14, Scott Central 4

SIKESTON -- Cody Van de Ven pitched a one-hitter and Clayton Stoverink hit a two-run home run as the Leopold baseball team won its first game Wednesday with a 14-4, six-inning road victory over Scott County Central.

Van de Ven struck out seven and walked 10 in the completegame effort for Leopold (1-2).

Stoverink homered in a fourrun fourth, doubled and finished with four RBIs. Van de Ven and Wade Wiseman each had two doubles, and Jordan Jansen added a pair of hits. Wiseman also had two RBIs.

Notre Dame 6, Dexter 3

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Notre Dame evened its record with a home victory, although the Bulldogs (2-2) were the visiting team on the scoreboard.

Jake Pewitt was the winning pitcher. He allowed two hits and one run in four innings, while striking out five and walking four.

Dylan Drury worked two innings and Tanner Hiett earned a save by striking out the side in the seventh.

Colton Young and Aaron Tomascewski both had two of Notre Dame's eight hits. Sophomore Mark Hagedorn homered in his first career varsity at-bat.

Cooter 4, Holcomb 0

HOLCOMB -- The Cooter Wildcats improved to 5-0 Wednesday afternoon, beating the Holcomb Hornets 4-0.

Cooter first got on the score board in the third inning, recording a run and eventually tacked on the insurance with two in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Junior Aaron McCaig went the distance for the Wildcats with the seven inning shutout. McCaig allowed only one hit while striking out nine and walking five.

Holcomb's Chard Adams was credited with the loss after pitching six innings, allowing four runs while striking out seven and walking two.

SOFTBALL

Leopold 18, Scott Central 0

SIKESTON -- Leopold banged out 10 hits and was issued 16 walks in a four-inning home victory.

Cassie Seiler had two hits and three RBIs for the Wildcats (2-1). Kaylee Gemeinhardt added a triple and two RBIs.

Winning pitcher Allison Beuter struck out six and allowed two hits.
