ROUNDUP: SIkeston soccer shuts out Harrisburg

HARRISBURG, Ill. -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs soccer team improved its record to 3-4 on the season Wednesday evening as they traveled to Harrisburg, Ill., and won by a final of 7-0.

Jordi Ferrell had a big day on the field, recording a hat-trick with three goals. She also had an assist on the first goal of the game, which was scored by Emily Eaves at 7 minutes.

Amy Rushing and Morgan Fraser both recorded their first varsity goals, with Rushing's coming in the first half and Fraser's coming in the second half.

Ferrell had two goals in the first half as the Lady Bulldogs led 4-0 at the break.

Abbi Keefer recorded her only goal to begin the second half with an assist from Eaves at 44 minutes. Keefer then assisted the next two goals, which were from Fraser and Ferrell. She also had two assists in the first half, while Eaves and Katie De La Rosa each recorded one.

Sikeston is scheduled to play Springfield, Ill. at 5:45 p.m. on Friday evening in the Carbondale Tournament.

In junior varsity action, the Lady Bulldogs also picked up a win, 2-1.

Mary Deason and Sarah Hopson each had one goal apiece. Deason was assisted by Natalie Bohannon, and Hopson was assisted by Deason.

BASEBALL

Oran 20, Scott Central 2

SIKESTON -- The Oran Eagles traveled down the road to Scott County Central Wednesday evening and left with a victory by a final score of 20-2 in five innings.

Jayden Pobst recorded the win for the Eagles. Pobst threw three innings, giving up one earned run on three hits, three walks and four strikeouts.

At the plate, Jake Carter led Oran with a 5-for-5 performance of four singles, a double and five RBI. Caleb Seyer was 3-for-3 on the day with a triple. Teammate Kody Campbell was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.

Tyler Beardslee, Alex Chasteen and Cody Dirnberger each recorded two hits apiece in the win.

Taking the loss for the Braves was Mark Freed. Freed went 4 2/3 innings, giving up 12 earned runs on 17 hits, eight walks and eight strikeouts.

Freed, Toby Heeb and Bryan Freed each recorded one hit apiece for Scott Central.

Cooter 17, Delta C-7 4

COOTER -- The Cooter Wildcats baseball team improved to 7-1 on the season Wednesday afternoon, thanks in part to Aaron McCaig who hit for the cycle in the victory over the Delta C-7 Chargers.

McCaig's home run was with the bases loaded, and ended the game, 17-4, in the sixth inning due to the mercy rule.

Jonathan Boone also recorded a home run in the win for the Wildcats.

McCaig was on the hill for five innings, giving up four runs on six hits, while striking out 11 and walking three. He also hit a batter.

Aaron Brown threw one inning of scoreless relief, giving up no hits while walking one.

Delta C-7 now falls to 3-3 on the season with the loss.

GOLF

Jackson 171, Sikeston 178, Notre Dame 185

JACKSON -- Tanner Werner won medalist honors by shooting a 1-under-par 35 and helped Jackson capture first in a tri-meet at Bent Creek. Brett Slaten fired a 43 to place third for Notre Dame.

DEXTER -- The Tigers fell five shots short of knocking off Dexter at the Dexter Country Club. Tim Simmons led the way for the Tigers with a 41. Dexter's Chase Holden won medalist honors with a 37.
