CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Chaffee Red Devils suffered their first loss of the season Tuesday afternoon at the hands of the Cape Central Tigers, 16-4.
The Tigers jumped out on the Red Devils early, scoring two in the first before exploding for eight runs in the second.
"Cape swung the bats extremely well early on," said Chaffee head coach Brian Horrell. "You have to give them credit, they have a pretty good ball club."
Chaffee would try to battle back, putting up two runs in the third and two in the fourth. However, Cape Central was about to answer right back with three of their own in the fifth to seal the game.
Smith recorded the win for the Tigers while Chaffee's Andrew Dooley was credited for the loss.
At the plate, Chaffee was lead by Josh Steger and Hunter Thomas, who each went 2-for-2 with Thomas connecting with a double.
Bernie 21, Scott Central 13
SIKESTON -- The Scott County Central Braves fell to the Bernie Mules in a slugfest Tuesday afternoon, 21-13.
The Braves jumped out on the Mules early, leading 5-1. But a big eight run third inning for Bernie quickly found the home team down 9-5.
"I thought we were playing pretty well there early on. We had two really good first innings," said Scott Central head coach Spencer Whitehead. "But we've been having trouble avoiding the big inning and that's exactly what happened in the third."
Picking up the win for the Mules was Massey Basby while Ben Freed was credited for the loss. As a team the Braves battled very well from the plate, collecting 15 hits and only three strikeouts. However, it wasn't quite enough against Bernie's 21 runs.
Mark Freed connected with a home run while going 2-4 in the game while Caleb Johnson went 4-4 with a double.
Twin Rivers 20, Cooter 7
TWIN RIVERS -- The Twin Royals routed the Cooter Wildcats in five innings of work Tuesday afternoon, 20-7.
Cooter held an early 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the second but that's when the Royal bats came alive, scoring 11. They would then go on to tack on seven more runs in the third to seal the game.
Dylan Stockton picked up the win for the Royals while Logan Edwards was credited for the loss.
Jonathan Boone led the way for Cooter with two hits while as a team the Wildcats (6-1) racked up nine. Twin Rivers was led by a three-run home run by Stockton while as a team the Royals (2-2) collected 12 hits.
"Sometimes you have to take a step back, re-evaluate and get it going again," said Cooter head coach Allen Crawford after suffering their first loss of the season. "That's what we're going to do. We must improve in every facet of the game to compete for our district title and to continue on in the state playoffs."
