CARBONDALE -- The Sikeston girls soccer team lost a tough match at the Carbondale soccer tournament on Friday afternoon. The No. 7 seed Lady Bulldogs fell to No. 2 seed Springfield, Ill. in a 3-1 shootout.

"It was probably the best game we have played so far," Sikeston head coach Derrick Long said. "I thought we outplayed them.

It was an offensive and defensive struggle throughout regulation, as neither team could score a goal. Some of the Lady Bulldog s shots just couldn't hit the mark as a couple were hit off the post during regulation and one in the shoot-out.

"Three of our shots hit off the post during regulation," Long said. "We had one off the post in the shootout, too. It was just one of those nights."

Abbi Keefer scored Sikeston s lone goal in the shootout and Amber Minner recorded the shutout for the Lady ' Bulldogs.

Sikeston's next opponent was Champaign Central from Champaign, Ill., on Saturday.
