NEW MADRID -- Kelly Robey was one pitch away from a no-hitter on Monday afternoon, as she helped lead the New Madrid County Central Lady Eagles to a 10-0 victory in front of the home crowd.

The Gideon Lady Bulldogs were held to just one hit, which was a triple in the sixth inning by leadoff batter Megan Parker.

Robey was nearly flawless in the performance, facing 21 batters and striking out 12. She allowed one hit and walked two in the win.

"I thought I pitched OK," said Robey after the game. "I went through a couple of rough patches, throwing balls a few times (in a row). But, my change-up finally worked for me."

The Lady Eagles now improve their record to 5-1 on the season.

NMCC head coach Steve Rogers was pleased with the victory.

"I was real pleased," said Rogers. "We got all of the girls in today, they played hard and swung the bats good. Gideon's got a good, young team. We got a big win and now we're 5-1.

"As young as we are, I couldn't be happier," he went on to say. "I was glad that everybody got in and that everybody contributed. Kelly was good on the mound and we had good defense behind her."

The Lady Eagles tallied two in the first, three in the second, two in the fourth and finished the game early in the bottom of the sixth with three runs.

NMCC piled up 11 hits in the win, three from Whitney Tanner who was 3-for-4 with a single and two doubles. She also recorded three RBI and scored twice.

Sonni Carlisle was 2-for-4 with a single, a triple and three runs scored, Brandi Gardner was 2-for-2 with two singles and three RBI, and Samantha Hunter was 2-for-2 with a single and a double.

The Lady Eagles have six games remaining in the week, as they begin start things off with Meadow Heights today at 4 p.m.
