ROUNDUP: Sikeston tennis shuts out Mules

POPLAR BLUFF -- The Sikeston tennis team blanked Poplar Bluff 9-0 on the road Monday afternoon.

"I thought we played well today," said Sikeston head coach Brian James. "It's only our second match, so we're behind some of these other teams that have several matches in and maybe a tournament or two in.

"We'll have good tests all week long with Cape (today), Marion on Thursday, Farmington on Friday and the Poplar Bluff Invitational on Saturday."

With the win, Sikeston improves their record to 2-0.

BASEBALL

Oran 7, Delta 1

DELTA -- The Oran Eagles bounced back Monday afternoon after a tough loss over the weekend to beat the Delta Bobcats. It was a scoreless game until the top of the fourth, when Oran managed to put the first run on the board.

However, Delta managed to answer back in the fifth tying the game back up at 1-1. That would be as close as the Bobcats would get though as the Eagles would break the game open with four in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Picking up the win for Oran was senior Kody Campbell, who came in as relief for Jake Carter in the bottom of the fifth. Delta's Martin was credited for the loss.

At the plate, Tyler Beardslee led the way for the Eagles, going 2-4 with a home run.

Oran will be back in action Wednesday when they host the Advance Hornets at 4 p.m.

__Cooter 11, Gideon 0

COOTER -- The Cooter Wildcats improved to 10-1 on the season Monday afternoon after a 11-0 shut out over the Gideon Bulldogs.

Cooter took a 2-0 led in the second before putting the game out of reach with three runs in the third and six in the fourth.

Nick Rinks picked up the win for the Wildcats pitching a no hitter, striking out seven and walking one. Jordan Boone took the loss for Gideon while walking eight and striking out three.

At the plate Aaron Brown, Terry Poole and Charles Copeland all had hits for Cooter.

Charleston 7, Chaffee 6

CHAFFEE -- The Red Devils allowed two unearned runs in a five-run fifth inning.

Andy Hendrix and Hunter Thomasson each had two hits for Chaffee (6-2), which had six hits. Losing pitcher Andrew Dooley had three RBIs and Thomasson had two.

GOLF

Cape Central 162, Jackson 180, NMCC 187, Clearwater 224

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Jack Connell and Tim Simmons were medalists as Central posted an 18-stroke victory at Cape Girardeau Country Club. Connell and Simmons each shot a 3-over-par 38 on the front nine to lead the way. Cole Viers (42) and Garrett Pannier (44) rounded out Central's score. Tanner Werner paced Jackson with a 41. Rounding out the scoring for the Indians were Joe Shultz (43), Jordan Dale (47) and Todd Heuring (49).

Dexter 164, Notre Dame 177

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Bulldogs were led by John Oliver's 42.

Chance Holden and Jon Bowman, both of Dexter, shared medalist honors with 40s.
