Clearwater's Swofford throws no-hitter in defeat

By DAR STAFF

Clearwater's Tisha Swofford threw her third no-hitter in four games but walked eight as the Lady Tigers lost 5-0 Monday at Greenville.

The Lady Tigers had their best chance to score when Lydia Wymore led off the second inning with a double, only to be stranded on second as Sara Condray retired the next three hitters in order.

Condray struck out eight and walked one while allowing three hits in seven innings

Tara Porter reached on an error, walked and scored twice to lead the Lady Bears.

"You always want to win, but I felt good about hanging with them," Clearwater coach Shannon England said.

Dexter 15, Portageville 0, 3 innings

Stephanie Jackson pitched a three-hitter and got plenty of run support from her teammates as the Lady Bearcats made quick work of the Lady Bulldogs on Monday.

"Everybody was hitting well," Dexter coach Tammy Crawley said.

SCAA TOURNAMENT:

Dexter took first place in the Stoddard County softball tournament over the weekend, while Bloomfield came in second, Bernie finished third and Puxico took home the sportsmanship award.

The Bearcats placed four players on the All-Tournament team, including infielder Amanda Dooley, outfielders Taylor Adams and Alyssa Trewatha and pitcher Alana Duley.

Catcher Sami Palmer and infielder Leslie Kean made the team from Bernie, while Bloomfield was represented by infielder Jessie White, outfielder Sarah Strickland and pitcher Paige Fuqua.

Infielders Taylor Eggiman from Advance and Hannah White from Puxico and outfielder Tosha Rhodes from Woodland also made the team.

BASEBALL

Sikeston 10, Doniphan 0, 5 innings

The Dons sent 18 batter to the plate but came away each time without a hit as Sikeston's Charlie Bohannon threw a five-inning no-hitter.

Bohannon relied heavily on breaking pitches to retire hitter after hitter.

"We can't hit anybody who throws curveballs," Doniphan coach John Mark Merriman said.

Dons starter Daniel Newman lasted only two innings before giving way to Tyler Harding.
