MARION, Ill. -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs improved to 7-10 Thursday evening when they beat the Marion Lady Wildcats on the road, 3-1.
After a scoreless first half, the Lady Bulldogs wasted little time in the second, scoring two goals in three minutes. Jordi Ferrell was first to connect at the 44-minute mark on an assist from Abbi Keefer. Ferrell would then return the favor to Keefer at the 47-minute mark to give the visiting squad a 2-0 lead.
Marion's Jessie Crabtree would cut the deficit back down to one a few minutes later but that proved to be as close as the Lady Wildcats would get, as a corner kick from Ferrell would connect with Laura Atchison for Sikeston's third goal of the night.
"I thought we played a pretty good game tonight against a tough team in Marion," said Sikeston coach Derrick Long. "Our defense stayed solid for us and I felt our offense really picked up in the second half.
"Abbi (Keefer) and Jordi (Ferrell) really played well up front for us tonight and I thought Jordi really did a great job of controlling the tempo for us through most of the game."
Sikeston goalie Amber Minner picked up 11 saves in the win. The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action Monday afternoon when they host the Poplar Bluff Lady Mules at 5 p.m. In junior varsity action, the Lady Bulldogs tied the Lady Wildcats 1-1.
