The Bulldogs earned a share of the SEMO Conference regular-season championship and, although they didn't get out of the Class 4 district, they were ranked fourth in the final state poll.

"Michael has been such a great player for us," Sikeston head coach Gregg Holifield told the Sikeston Standard Democrat. "He continues to improve each and every year and this year he really stepped up and was a great leader for our team.

"I thought this by far was his best year because so many teams doubled him and even tripled him at times," Holfield added. "He's so unselfish and has a great work ethic."

Porter was first-team all-conference and the conference scoring leader in addition to all-state by the Missouri Association of Basketball Coaches and first-team all-state by the sports writers and sportscasters. He also was one of five first-team Class 4 selections by MaxPreps.
