FARMINGTON -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs advanced to the semifinal round of the Class 1 District 1 Tournament Monday evening after beating the host Farmington Knightettes 1-0 in overtime.
"It was a good hard fought win," said Sikeston coach Derrick Long. "It may have took us a while but our defense held strong, and we finally put one in."
The Lady Bulldogs outshot the Knightettes 18-5 through regulation and overtime but no shot was bigger than their final one in overtime.
Abbi Keefer connected for the winning goal on a pass from Jordi Ferrell at the 94 minute mark to give Sikeston the 1-0 victory.
"We had a lot of scoring opportunities, especially at the end of regulation but we just had a hard time getting them in," said Long. "But you got to give a lot of that credit to Farmington's defense, they really played well tonight."
On our side, I thought Ferrell played an amazing game, probably her best all year. She really opened up our offense and made a lot of good runs.
Picking up the shut out victory for the Lady Bulldogs was goalie Amber Minner with five saves.
Up next for Sikeston (12-13) will be the defending district champs, No. 1 seed Notre Dame Lady Bulldogs. The game will begin at 5 p.m. in Farmington.
