Staff Reports ~ sd_sports@yahoo.com

SPRINGFIELD -- The two Sikeston Bulldog representatives at the state championship golf finished Monday afternoon in the middle of the pack at the Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield.

Bill Green finished tied for 48th place with a score of 83, while teammate Dakota Trevino tied for 72nd place with an 86.

"Bill played well today, he just didn't putt really well," said Sikeston golf coach Andy McGill. "He struck the ball really well, he just had three 3-putts on the day. He did hit 13 of 14 fairways, and he also hit 12 of 18 greens.

As for Trevino, McGill said that he just needed to work on hitting the greens more consistently today.

"Dakota didn't play great, but he scrambled well today," said McGill. "He putt really well, but he hardly hit any greens."

The 128 participants in the state competition will have a shotgun start at 8 a.m. today as they try to avoid inclement weather. Results will be in Wednesday's sports section.
