JEFFERSON CITY -- Local track and field athletes from Class 1 and 2 will be competing in the state meet on Friday and Saturday in Jefferson City.
In Class 1, the Scott Central Braves had a good showing at the Class 1 Sectional as five have advanced to the state meet.
In the sectional, D.D. Gillespie won the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.52 and finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.14. Jarron Banks also qualified for state in the 110-meter hurdles with a second place finish with a time of 17.54 and the 300-meter hurdles with a fourth place finish at 45.01.
The Scott Central 4x200 relay team consisting of Randy Timmons, Drew Thomas, Banks and Chris Blissett finished first with a time of 1:34.45.
On the girls side, Oran's Haley Glastetter qualified for state in four events. Glastetter finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.12 and third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.45. In the 400-meter run the freshman finished third with a time of 1:04.32 and she also placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.96.
In the Class 2 sectional held at Principia High School, East Prairie had five boys and girls qualify for state.
Tony Jones had a second place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.15 and was also a member of the 4x100 relay team that finished third with a time of 44.95. Other team members include Cory Sisk, M.C. Williams, Shane Scott and Seth Hall.
On the girls side, Jennifer Nicholson qualified for state after a fourth place finish in the shot put (33-11.75) and second place finish in the discus (109-5).
Kelly's Londyn Backfisch and Tara Johnson also will be headed to state. Backfisch finished second in the 100-meter dash (12.81), second in the 200-meter dash (26.21) and third in the high jump (5-0).
Johnson finished third in the 1600-meter run (5:39.92) and second in the 3200-meter run (12:24.93).
