EUREKA -- Poplar Bluff qualified six boys and one girl for the state track meet as they competed in a sectional meet at Eureka on Saturday.
"Overall I thought we did well," Mules coach Lance Bell said. "The kids we got through have a shot at placing pretty high."
Junior Chris Kilgore took home the boys' only first-place medal, winning the high jump by clearing the bar at 6 feet, 6 inches.
Sophomore Zach Ferguson placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles event with a time of 15.00 seconds.
Senior Jordan Chaligoj finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.88 seconds.
Ferguson came in fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 39.70 seconds.
Travis Blalock finished second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 9:58.47.
In the shot put, Philip Klaproth came in second with a distance of 51 feet, 8.5 inches.
Greg Coble and Kilgore finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the long jump with respective distances of 20 feet, 1 inch and 19 feet, 7 inches.
Matt Chatman took third in the pole vault with a height of 13 feet, 6 inches.
Freshman Hannah Blalock was the only girl to place in the running events for Poplar Bluff, finishing seventh in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:03.54.
Rebecca Piland recorded a high jump of 4 feet, 10 inches to place seventh in that event.
Piland also took third in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 8 inches and sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 32 feet, 10 inches.
