SIKESTON -- Seven local baseball players were named to the SEMO Conference 1st Team for the 2008 season.
From Dexter Eric Windham (P), Caleb Miller (IF) and Mason Noe (IF) were selected. Sikeston s first team selections included Chase Ferrell (C) and Scott Droddy (IF).
Rounding out the seven first team local athletes were Dylan Harris (IF) of New Madrid County Central and Levi Felter (OF) of Kelly.
Ferrell is sixth on the Bulldog roster in average, hitting .314 heading into district play. He has 11 RBI on 22 hits this season and has seven doubles. Ferrell has been a wall behind the plate for Sikeston as their everyday catcher.
Droddy leads the team with a .451 average at the plate and has 18 RBI, 28 runs scored and 32 hits. His on-base percentage of .588 leads the team as well. Droddy bats regularly in the No. 2 spot in the lineup and is 9-of-11 in stolen base attempts this season.
"Scott has made All-Conference for the last three years, so this is nothing out of the ordinary," said Sikeston head coach Kevin Self of Droddy's selection to the team. "He's been a good player for the last three years and it's deserving that he make the team. He's the guy that makes us go.
"Chase has been the most solid guy behind the plate that we've had in a while," he added about Ferrell's selection. "If guys get off too far then I turn him loose and he's thrown out a bunch of guys this season. He's also had some clutch hits this season and had a few game-winners. The other guys in the conference were impressed with his defensive skills and his offense has picked up this season. He's now hitting over .300 on the season."
Felter has 27 hits and is hitting .415 for the Hawks heading into district competition. His two home runs and 14 RBI have attributed to his .569 slugging percentage which he shares at the top of the list with teammate Dustin Crowden.
Crowden and teammate Dustin LeGrand are the two Hawks that made the honorable mention list.
Also making the honorable mention list from the local area are Garrett Limbaugh (P), Vince Howard (OF) and Seth Baker (OF) from Sikeston, Kyle Marshall (P), Josh St. Mary (IF) and Rusty Clark (OF) from NMCC and Ben Mills (C), David Hessling (OF) and Matt Banken (OF) from Dexter.
Miller and Garrett Stevens from Cape Central shared the honors of SEMO Conference Co-Player of the Year. Miller's head coach at Dexter, Brian Becker, was given the title of Coach of the Year for the conference.
