CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Tuesday night's contest between Cape Girardeau Post 63 and Scott County Post 369 turned out to be a pitcher's duel with Post 63's hurler coming out on top 8-7 in seven innings.

Garrett Stevens picked up the victory for Cape as he worked all seven innings, giving up five earned runs on 12 hits and one walk while recording five strikeouts.

"Garrett threw pretty well," said Post 63 head coach David Meyr. "He made big pitches when he had to and he got us out of some big jams. If we had come up with some timely hits, then it wouldn't have come down to the 8-7 score."

Scott County fell behind early in the contest, as starting pitcher Levi Felter gave up three earned runs on five hits through the first seven batters.

"It wasn't his best outing," said Post 369 head coach Denver Stuckey of his starter. "But, it was probably my fault because I've been wearing him out lately. He's gone at least six or seven innings each time out but he's a competitor. I like having him out there because he keeps us in the game."

Felter was handed the tough loss as he gave up seven earned runs through seven innings on 14 hits and one walk while striking out three.

Hidei Tanaka and Brady James led the offensive push for Cape in the No. 1 and No. 2 slots in the lineup, going a combined 6-for-6. Tanaka had two singles, a triple, a walk and three runs scored while James recorded three singles, a run scored and two RBIs.

Adam Kelley was also 3-for-3 with two singles, a triple and two runs scored.

Scott County's Felter, Blake Dirnberger, Chris Asmus and Cody Carlyle were each 2-for-4 in the loss. Felter recorded a single, a double, a run and an RBI and Carlyle had a single, a double and an RBI. Dirnberger chipped in a single, a triple and a run scored and Asmus had two doubles, a run scored and an RBI.

Up next for both squads is the Paducah tournament that begins on Thursday afternoon.
