The Doniphan Dons got three runs in the first frame on the way to a five-inning 11-1 win over Van Buren.
Travis Moe and Ethan King each had two RBIs for the Dons while Zack Swindle had one.
"We scored runs, we kind of took what the pitcher gave us," Doniphan coach Jason Rose said. "I was pretty proud overall of how we swung the bats."
The Dons (1-0) got a solid effort on the hill as three different players combined for five innings of work.
"The thing that I'm proud of is we gave up one walk," Rose said. "We threw strikes, our pitchers did a good job."
Campbell 19, North Pemiscot 1: Joe Campbell led off the game with a home run and later hit a triple while driving in four runs for the visiting Camels.
Campbell, which scored 12 times in the second inning, had 13 hits and seven walks in the season opener. Taylor Wethington was 3-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs while Zack Jackson added two hits and Nick Small drove in three runs.
Cale Weeks struck out five in two innings for the win.
Holcomb 16, Clarkton 6: Holcomb overpowered Clarkton with 16 runs behind Corbin Clark who notched the win Monday afternoon. The Reindeer had seven hits on the day and were issued just two walks but the Clarkton pitching staff gave up 12 walks in the game.
"This year, our pitching staff is inexperienced," Clarkton coach Scott Blackburn said. "We are going to go through some growing pains with pitching as they grow on the mound."
SOFTBALL
Doniphan 15, Van Buren 0: The Donettes had 17 hits in a three-inning win over Van Buren Monday.
Erin Pennington led the Donettes with five RBIs while Jan Smith added three in the win. Mary Beth Cosgrove didn't allow a hit on the mound for Doniphan as she had seven strikeouts in three innings of work.
Kelly 11, East Carter 1: The Hawks scored 11 runs on 14 hits as they cruised to victory.
Londyn Backfisch led the Hawks (1-0) with four hits, Brittney Brantley added three hits and Katie Moore had two hits and three RBIs. Casey Kern also had a double and two RBIs.
Heather Beggs pitched four innings to earn the win. She struck out six, walked one and allowed one hit.
GIRLS TENNIS
Poplar Bluff 9, Fredericktown 0: Jenni Hubbard, Poplar Bluff's No. 2 singles player, made a great comeback, as she came from behind at 5-0 to defeat Samantha Pinkley of Fredericktown, 8-6.
Top-seeded Jessica Gray made quick work of Asha Ayyagharri, 8-2.
In doubles, the Mules' Gray and Allie Poteet defeated Ayyagarri and Allison Clover in the No. 1 doubles match, 8-2.
"Every girl played their hardest," Mules head coach Michelle Massey said. "I'm very proud of how they played."
The Lady Mules host Jackson today.
