SEMOBALL FOOTBALL HIGH 5 RATINGS

The top five teams in the Semoball.com ratings for the preseason, with last year's record:

1. Jackson (11-1) The Class 5 state semifinalists from last year return several key players from a perfect regular season, including quarterback Marcus Harris, running back Adam Zweigart (1,751 yards, 18 TDs), end Kevin Pridemore, linebackers Blake Peiffer, Cole Rodgers and Drew Bucher.

2. Poplar Bluff (5-5) The Class 4 team will be trying for a winning record against a tough schedule, but they have QB Todd Bullington, running back Zach Ferguson and fullback/linebacker Aaron Ellis to lead the way. The Mules will try to step off on the right foot by repeating last year's win against New Madrid County Central.

3. New Madrid County Central (9-2) Enough key figures are back from last year's Class 3 quarterfinalist -- including end Kony Ealy and running back Bryan Waters -- to make the Eagles formidable.

4. Dexter (6-4) With Ben Mills returning after leading Southeast Missouri in passing last year (1,409 yards, 18 touchdowns) along with three offensive linemen and running back Nick Hessling, Dexter is poised to give NMCC a run in Class 3 district play.

5. Hayti (11-1) The Class 1 state quarterfinalist of last year lost a lot from last year's team, but Division I lineman Craig Robinson is a handful.
