The Missouri State Trappers Association will have their 50th anniversary convention at the Arena Park in Cape Girardeau Sept. 18 through 21.
The event opens at 6:30 a.m. on the 18th and people will begin to set up booths and tents for those who will rough it through the meeting. The get-together usually follows the pattern of the rendezvous the trappers had in the early days of the United States.
There will be a lot of demonstrations Friday and Saturday. Some of those will be skinning and handling of trapped furs and methods of trapping different species.
On Friday, breakfast and lunch will be served and on that evening there will be a fish fry and a gospel quartet will sing.
Saturday will consist of breakfast and more demonstrations. Lunch will be served in the park and Saturday night there will be an auction at 8 p.m.
A former Miss Missouri will attend and Miss Missouri Outdoors is scheduled to appear. Wildlife artist Joe Goodman will be there with some of his paintings.
Ron Thornburgh of Wayne County will be one of the speakers.
The event is open for the public and anyone interested in trapping would be welcome with questions from some of the best trappers in Missouri.

BUTLER COUNTY COON HUNT
Attendance at the Butler County Coon Hunters Club's event last weekend wasn't as good as it has been in the past, but some good dogs were in the show and 17 hunted the night hunt.
In the bench show, the champion male of the show was Ch. Bob Barker, handled by Ed Yamnitz of Patton. Best female of show was Street's Minnie Jane, owned and handled by Jack Street of Patterson.
The night hunt had only one cast with plus points and that produced a winner for Nt. Ch. Street's Pro Boss, owned by Jack Street.
Kelly Landreth of Corning, Ark., was the bench show judge and master of hounds for the event.
There are no hunts this weekend as UKC clubs take a holiday. The only hunt I know of in the whole country is the annual Autumn Oak event at Richmond, Ind.
The next UKC hunt in the area will be at Poplar Bluff, sponsored by the Butler County club Sept. 5. Area hunters should make plans to attend this event as it is a good time to start getting the hounds ready for the upcoming season.
