Poplar Bluff Junior High cross country teams win at Kelly

By DAR STAFF

Both the Poplar Bluff Junior High boys and girls cross country teams won the Kelly-Benton Invitational over the weekend.

The boys team nearly had a perfect score, which is when a single team places all five runners in the top five. Kortez Ellis won the race followed by Mark Keena and Bailey Davidson, who tied for second. Logan Brittingham came in fourth while Ryan Brittingham (10th), Luke Pelton (12th) and Landon Jones (16th) also finished for Poplar Bluff. The Mules came close to the perfect score but a runner missed a turn and had to back track.

"Despite the heat and a wrong turn, these kids could not have raced any more perfectly," PBJHS head coach Beth Lewis added.

In the girls race, Poplar Bluff was well-represented as Allison Huskey took second and Riley Greenwall finished fourth.

The Little Mules' Kacey Kimbrow (ninth), Adriene Burfield (13th) and Tamerly Coleman (16th) rounded out the top 20.
