Lady Royals take rematch with East Carter

Sunday, September 14, 2008

By DAR STAFF

There wasn't 45-combined strikeouts this time around but there was the same result, as the Twin Rivers Lady Royals beat East Carter 7-0 on Friday.

The previous meeting between the two teams back on Aug. 28 saw Twin Rivers' Carlee Vancil strike out 25 and Courtney Newman fanned 20.

Vancil's bat did the talking in this game, as she went 2-for-4 with four RBI and a triple.

"She'd been struggling at the plate," Twin Rivers head coach Rob Brown said. "She told me when she got to third base 'I'm back'."

Cindy Nippe went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Chelsea Crain pitched the complete game on the rubber for Twin Rivers after getting no run support in a start earlier in the week against Delta in which the Lady Royals lost, 1-0.

"We let her down on Monday," Brown said. "She pitched just as good on Friday."

For East Carter, Newman struck out four on the rubber and had a hit at the plate.

Couch 5, Neelyville 2

The Lady Tigers stranded seven runners on the basepaths including leaving the bases loaded in the first inning. Neelyville had a busy week with four games in total. Head coach Liz Ponder thought that may have factored into the loss.

"I don't know if having four games this week finally caught up with the girls but there was no or enthusiasm from energy the team," Ponder said.

Neelyville (2-4) returns to action Monday at East Carter.

BASEBALL: Twin Rivers came up empty in three tries over the weekend.

The Royals lost to Senath 8-3 and South Pemiscot 12-1 on Friday before falling on Saturday to Cooter, 6-2.

"I come away pretty satisfied especially today," Twin Rivers coach Denver Stuckey said. "We competed with a very good Cooter team."

Kyle Kinney got the lone RBI for the Royals against Cooter, while Johnny Stevenson got an RBI against South Pemiscot. Three Royals each had an RBI in the loss to Senath. Even though the Royals didn't get a win, they can still built from the games, Stuckey said.

"There is nothing to show in the win column but we got valuable experience in these three games," Stuckey said.

Campbell 3, Puxico 0

The Camels got a solid pitching performance out of Dylan Lynn, who went the distance over the Indians, striking out seven on just 72 pitches.

Zack Jackson continued his tear at the plate for the Camels as the hit a solo homer in the third inning. He also doubled.

Billy game Meadows had Campbell's only other RBI on the which came in the second inning.

Cody Russom pitched the complete game for Puxico giving just two earned and fanned five batters.
