After dropping their first match Monday night, the Puxico Indians bounced back to beat Bloomfield, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22.
"The first one they were a little bit down," Puxico coach Karen Hazel said. "They picked it up though. They were determined."
Hazel noted her team got some good blocks Ashley Hoyer, Sara Holloway, Kristen Pratt and Nonne Cummins played aggressively at the net for the Indians.
Hazel also thought Erin Clark, Erin Thompson and Lacey Gregory each had solid games as well for Puxico (12-6-2).
Jessica White led the Lady Wildcats with nine kills.
"They need to work on keeping momentum for all three games," Bloomfield coach Starla Pulley said. "They do well but then they can't keep it where they need to have it to finish three sets."
Che' Holford led Bloomfield with 14 digs and Taylor Pulley had 13 assists.
"Our defense the last game wasn't where it needed to be," coach Pulley said. "Our hitting has improved a lot but there are still a few errors I would rather not have."
BASEBALL
Clearwater 3, Doniphan 0: The Tigers got three runs in the fourth inning to move past Doniphan.
Jordan Devenport and Kyle Randolph each had RBIs for the Tigers (14-3, 6-0 OFC) behind a strong pitching performance from Logan Morris. Morris got the win as he went seven innings and had 14 strikeouts.
"He was keeping the ball down and had good command of his fastball," Clearwater coach Joe McAlister said. "He just kept it down the whole time and never let them get into a rhythm."
Zack Swindle struck out four over six innings for Doniphan.
"He pitched a heck of a game," McAlister said. "He pitched well enough to win."
Campbell 8, South Pemiscot 3: In the opening-round of the Tri-County Tournament, the Camels got production out of its Nos. 3 and 4 spots in the lineup.
Zack Jackson went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and Cale Weeks went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer respectively for Campbell (15-3).
Dylan Lynn pitched complete game for the Camels. He allowed three earned runs and eight strikeouts.
Aaron Brooker went 1-for-3 with two RBIs for South Pemiscot.
Naylor 12, Ellington 8: Both teams capitalized on defensive mishaps, but the in the end, the Eagles did it the most for their 10th win of the season.
"(Ellington) made quite a few mistakes for us," Naylor coach Glenn Eubanks said. "Then we did the same for them."
Naylor (10-5) brought 11 batters to the plate in the third inning and scored seven runs.
Travis Thomas had a solid all-around game for Naylor as he went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two batted in. He also struck out 10 on the mound and walked three.
"He's still getting command of his pitches," Eubanks said. "I'd like for him to have a little better control."
SOFTBALL
Couch 5, Neelyville 0: The Lady Tigers had seven hits but couldn't plate any runs in a loss to Couch.
Hannah McDaniel pitched seven innings and had eight strikeouts in the loss for the Lady Tigers.
"We have a lot of work to do on defense to be competitive for the upcoming district tournament," Neelyville coach Liz Ponder said. "This was once again evident after committing five errors this game."
Twin Rivers 8, East Prairie 0: The Lady Royals got five runs in the first inning at home.
Chelsea Crain, Bethany Keirsey and Carlee Vancil each had two hits in the win.
"Lately, (the offense) has been pretty good," Twin Rivers coach Rob Brown said. "You put pressure on the defense and good things happen."
Crain gave up three hits while striking out 10.
