PIEDMONT -- The Clearwater Tigers are bringing a little bit of momentum into this week's Ozark Foothills Conference tournament after they beat Greenville Friday afternoon, 16-6, in six innings.
After Clearwater got off to a 4-0 start through the first two innings, the Bears didn't back down as they got their first of two three-run home runs on the day. After Scott Foster reached base on an error and Nick Wren walked, Robert Abernathy stepped in and stroked a twoout homer to right field to make it 4-3.
But Clearwater (16-3, 6-0) put things out reach over the next two innings as they scored eight runs to pull away for good.
With the score 12-3 in the fifth, Greenville's D.J. Robinson put the mercy out of reach for at least one more inning as he stroked a three-run homer to left to make it 12-6.
But Clearwater finished the Bears (7-9, 3-3) for good in the sixth as they plated four runs to call the game.
Clearwater had seven different players with RBIs on the day. Kyle Randolph, Jordan Devenport, Kendall Fay and Logan Morris each had two on the day while Trey Hill, Chris Kirkpatrick and Cole Ezell each knocked in one run.
Fay picked up the win on the mound striking out two and giving up three earned runs in 4 2/3 innings pitched.
