MOUNTAIN VIEW -- Van Buren swept the team titles at the MSHSAA Class 1 District 4 cross country meet Saturday at Dane Glass Golf Course.
The Bulldogs edged Koshkonong by two points 42-44 while the Lady Dawgs scored 33 points to win by seven.
Daniel Newberry finished fourth to lead Van Buren with a time of 19 minutes, 20 seconds while Zane Betz followed in 19:41. Nathan Morgan (20:05) finished 10th, Dalton Williams (20:16) was 14th and Kenny Gibbs (20:48) placed 17th.
The Lady Dawgs were led by Michaela Smith in ninth place with a time of 25:28. Courtney Swift (26:17) was 15th, Denise Haberl (27:05) was 17th, followed by Grace Betz (27:10), while Kyra Zimmer (29:08) was 24th. Emma VanWinkle (30:35) and Jonna Crider (24:54) did not score for Van Buren.
Lutie's Julie Greenough won the girls race in 21:10 while Justin Golay of Fordland won the boys race in 18:44.
Ellington's Lana Price qualified for state with a fourth-place finish in 25:02 while in the boys race, Derek Jensen finished ninth in 19:59 to qualify.
The state meet will be held this Saturday in Jefferson City.
YOUTH GOLF: Carr Vernon won his third Plantations Junior Golf Tour tournament Oct. 18-19 at Aberdeen Golf Club in Eureka.
Vernon, of Poplar Bluff, shot rounds of 3-under 69 and 80 for an eight-stroke victory in the boys 14-15 age division. Vernon also won tournaments at the Lodge of the Four Seasons in August and at Crown Pointe in September.
MMA: Brandon Sisco recently won a welterweight title in the Absolute Fighting Challenge to improve to 8-3-1. Sisco, a Poplar Bluff native, fights for Team Evolution out of the Black Belt Academy.
Jason Aldridge won his AFC light-heavywieght fight for Team Evolution while Josh Miller also won his fight.
