DEXTER -- Dexter's twin threat of Cathryn and Katelyn Heil has been beating opponents for three years and starting next fall, they will be together for another four years at the college level.
The sisters signed their letters of intent Wednesday to attend Missouri S&T, formerly UM-Rolla, to play basketball.
"We played four years together, we've played a long time together and it just felt right to go with her," Cathryn said. "We really liked the campus, its a good fit."
Katelyn, who averaged 18.5 points per game last season, was considering other places but once the twins went for a visit, they were convinced it was the right place.
"We knew we probably didn't want to split up, it would be harder for us," Katelyn said. "We were excited for four more years together and playing basketball."
Dexter girls basketball coach Chad Allen thinks S&T will benefit quickly bringing in the two 5-foot-10 forwards.
"I know Missouri S&T is definitely getting a steal getting both of them together," Allen said. "I am sure both of them will go in there and make an impact right away and do real well."
Katelyn has a solid all-around game that allows her to play different positions on the court, Allen said.
"Katelyn is definitely a great shooter and she is a very hardnosed player," Allen said. "She is really aggressive and can also handle the ball real well."
Although the pair's game's are similar, they are some differences, Allen said. Cathryn averaged 5.2 points per game last season and 2.4 steals per contest.
"Cathryn is probably a little bit more of a slasher, she can really take the ball to the hole real well," Allen said. "She is great with her left hand, too."
The twins have played competitive AAU basketball together since third grade and have developed quite a relationship through the sport.
"We break down games together and we talk about what each other are doing wrong or doing right," Katelyn said. "We definitely support each other there 100 percent."
Through the years, the twins have made each other better by playing many games of oneon-one.
"We work really well with each other, but at the same time we are very competitive with each other," Cathryn said. "We have definitely had our scrapes and bruises going into the house after playing one-on-one out on the patio."
The twins have been prepared well for the next level in large part to Allen, who played college basketball at Three Rivers.
"Coach Allen has done a wonderful job of getting us prepared for what conditioning is going to be like in college and bringing in from what he has learned from what he has done," Cathryn said. "We are going to take our attitude that he gives us and our strengths that he has worked with us on and the moves and add it to what they are going to teach us and it will be a whole new game."
Moving up to the next level means more competition which is something that the duo will welcome, Cathryn said.
"I think it is going to be exciting, it is going to fun to step up that one more level and just go hard all the time," Cathryn said. "It will be fun."
