Dexter's Kohlbaker runs down medal

JEFFERSON CITY -- Lizzie Kohlbaker of Dexter earned an all-state medal with her 12th place finish Saturday at the MSHSAA Class 2 cross country championships.

The Lady Bearcats finished 14th as a team with 244 points while Herculaneum won the title at 102. Kohlbaker's time of 21 minutes, 26 seconds was eight seconds from cracking the top 10. Eileen Schwiess of Herculaneum won the race in 19:55.

In Class 4, Poplar Bluff sophomore Hannah Blalock finished 32nd with a time of 20:00 while older brother Travis finished 44th in 17:11. Emily Sisson of Parkway Central won the Class 4 girls race in 17:57 while Kevin Colon of Lee's Summit West won in 15:51.

In Class 1, Van Buren finished 13th in the boys race while the Lady Dawgs finished 15th.

Van Buren junior Daniel Newberry finished 57th with a time of 19:25 while Nathan Morgan and Zane Betz each finished in 19:58 for 83rd and 84th place. Kenny Gibbs (20:34), Dalton Williams (20:38) and Kris Roberson (23:07) also ran for the Bulldogs, who finished with 298 points.

College Heights Christian won the team title with 18 points by placing runners in first, second, third, fifth and seventh place.

Penney won the Class 1 girls title with 58 points.

Van Buren's girls finished with 377 points led by freshman Michalea Smith, who finished in 87th place in 25:01. Denise Haberl (26:22), Courtney Swift (27:20), Grace Betz (27:21), Kyra Zimmer (28:55), Emma Vanwinkle (30:05) and Jonna Crider (31:56) ran for the Lady Dawgs.

Along with Kohlbaker, a sophomore, Dexter featured Brittney Waldner (23:17), Ameilia Jibben (23:24), Jessica Litchefield (23:47), Hannah Baker (24:18), Hannah Mathis (24:59) and Madison Baker (26:17).
