HARRISON, Ark. -- The Lady Raiders' three-game winning streak was hanging in the balance Monday night against North Arkansas before Three Rivers freshman Chelsea Johnson came through in the clutch.
Johnson got a defensive rebound after a missed free throw and in 4.5 seconds, went the length of the court and made a 3-pointer to force overtime. The Lady Raiders went on to win 96-90.
Johnson finished with 20 points while Morgan Davis added 18 and Sara Woodgeard had 15.
"I think anytime you win on the road, it is a big win," Lady Raiders coach Jeff Walk said. "The kids dug down deep and got mentally focused, especially in the last eight minutes of the game."
The Lady Raiders (4-2) were behind 39-32 at halftime and fought in the second half to get back in the game. They made 7-of-10 3-pointers in the second half to fuel their comeback.
"We had to fight real hard to stay in the game," Walk said. "It wasn't like we weren't guarding them, we were trying to but they run a good offense."
Along with Johnson's 20 off the bench, sophomore Kaci Menz had 10 points in just 15 minutes in the win.
"That is a pleasant surprise," Walk said of the bench. "That is the nice thing about having a deep bench is that if someone is having an off night, someone else can step up."
Five different players scored in double figures in the win as Meredith Medlin had 12 from the small forward position.
"We are getting a little bit more accustomed to playing with one another," Walk said. "Their learning curve is pretty good, they don't make the same mistake over and over."
