TRCC women end road swing with win

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -- The Lady Raiders extended their winning streak to seven Saturday afternoon with a 77-73 win over Iowa Western.

"The kids played well," Three Rivers coach Jeff Walk said. "We got out of the gate really well."

Fareedah Washington was the high scorer for Three Rivers with 23 points, while Sara Woodgeard added 13 points and had a team-high eight rebounds. Morgan Davis had 10 points to round out the double-digit scoring for the Lady Raiders. Negesti Taylor scored 16 points to lead Iowa Western.

"She played well," Walk said of Washington, who was 10-of-16 from the field. "We got her the ball around the basket and she was able to finish."

Iowa Western got within two late in the game but Woodgeard made two free throws to extend the lead in the closing seconds.

"We were able to do what we needed to do," Walk said. "(Meredith) Medlin drew a charge which was a turning point and just all out hustle by the rest of the kids that were in."

The Lady Raiders had a 40-29 lead at the break and were able to hold off Iowa Western each time it made a push.

"They hit some 3-pointers that got us there," Walk said. "They put three runs on us and we made it through those. We didn't panic and held our composure Three Rivers ." shot 6-of-14 from 3-point range as compared to just 3-of-18 from deep for Iowa Western. The Lady Raiders outrebounded Iowa Western, 42-41 and scored 33 points off turnovers as compared to 19 for Iowa Western.

The Lady Raiders are back in action at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for their first home game of the season against Arkansas Baptist.
