The Raiders saw what they were made of physically Thursday night against Dyersburg State.
Playing with just seven players because of injuries and disciplinary reasons, Three Rivers cruised to a 105-56 win at the Bess Activity Center led by Aloysius Henry's 26 points.
"I thought we played very well," Raiders coach Gene Bess said. "I was very pleased considering we only had seven players. You are always a little apprehensive going into a game if you don't have a full bench."
Josh Terry added 22 points. Richard Walker finished with 21 and Jamarcus Williams rounded out the 20-point scorers for the Raiders with 20 and eight rebounds.
The Raiders took control of the game from the start as they started on a 17-2 run. Henry scored from the right block to even the game after Dyersburg State scored first, and Terry had a basket off a steal at the 13:18 mark to cap the run.
"Everybody is in pretty good shape, we just wanted to come out and play as hard as we could for 40 minutes," Raiders guard Adam Carpenter said. "I thought we played about 35 minutes of good ball so we did all right."
After controlling most of the first half, the Raiders punctuated the final 20 minutes with an 11-5 spurt that included three hoops by Henry and a basket with just two second remaining by Williams that made it 50-19 at the break.
"Jamarcus has been showing improvement all year," Bess said. "He hit his free throws tonight, he was just very steady and solid out there."
Henry started the second half with a putback to get the Raiders rolling and after a basket by Terry, Henry scored in the post to make it 56-25 with 17:53 remaining. Midway through the second half, the Raiders went on an 11-3 run that started with two Terry baskets at the second at the mark 9:35 mark. Those scores were followed by Henry, who got a putback after a miss at the 8:26 mark. The run was capped by two free throws from Jeff Shelton at the 7:08 mark after he went up strong for a dunk and was fouled.
"I was pleased with the way Shelton played tonight," Bess said. "You worry about particularly the point guard, Marquise (Carter) has been getting most of the minutes at the point, I was really pleased at the way (Shelton) was steady out there playing the point."
Carter was out for the Raiders with an ankle injury while Ken Bingham was out with a hamstring injury.
The game ended with a 12-2 spurt from the Raiders as Henry scored the last basket of the game with 24 second remaining. Henry was feeling good through the duration of the game around the basket.
"When I just take my time, I normally fill it but when I rush it, I normally miss," Henry said. "I just have to start taking my time around the basket."
The Raiders outrebounded the Eagles 50-19, led by Henry's 16.
"I was just trying to go after every ball," Henry said. "Every ball I went after, I was just trying to get."
Terry led the Raiders with seven assists to go along with his seven rebounds.
"I saw Josh get a little tired a couple times, boy, he had a great game," Bess said.
The short bench for the Raiders forced everyone that played to be ready to work physically.
"I think our kids are in pretty good shape," Bess said. "I think they enjoyed actually us not having to go any deeper into the bench because they get more playing time. Every one of those seven did a good job filling their roles tonight."
The Raiders are back at it at 7 p.m. tonight against Lakeland (Ohio).
"That first game (Thursday) had two good teams in it," Bess said. "I guarantee you, Lakeland can play."
