By DAR STAFF

ORAN -- The Twin Rivers Royals advanced to the semifinals of the Oran Invitational with a 75-67 win over the Bell City Cubs Monday night.

Twin Rivers (2-0) had three players in double figures led by Kyle Oberkramer with 18 as well as Brett Whitlock and Ryan Miller each scoring 17.

Bell City used 3-pointers to stay within the game as the Cubs finished with seven on the night.

"We got up early in the first then they started shooting better," Twin Rivers coach Rob Brown said. "(Ronnie) Gross and (Melvin) Johnson were pretty tough to guard."

Gross had a game-high 22 points and Johnson added 16.

"I thought we learned a lot about ourselves," Brown added. "Our game Saturday didn't give us too much of an indication of how we are as a team."

Brown was happy with his team's free-throw shooting down the stretch as they went 10-for-12 in the fourth quarter to help seal the win.

Twin Rivers will take on Advance in the semifinals at 8 p.m. Thursday.

"They beat Cooter by about 30 (points)" Brown said of Advance. "They are pretty well-balanced, 4-5 of them can shoot, they are quick and wellcoached."

Bernie 78, Holcomb 52

Zach Curry scored 27 points to lead Bernie at the Campbell tournament.

"You could definitely tell this was our first game," Bernie coach Brad Botsch said. "We struggled some, especially early on in the game."

Jake Smith had 18 points and eight rebounds in the win for the Mules.

Bernie led by just two after the first quarter but pulled away in the second quarter with 30 points as it cruised to the win.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Campbell 66, Caruthersville 39

Courtanie Vaughn scored 17 points to lead the Lady Camels past Caruthersville.

Campbell jumped out to an early lead 19-2 before outscoring the Lady Tigers in every quarter except the final one for the win.

Chelsea Bledsoe had a team-high seven rebounds to go along with 16 points while Morgan McCormick had 14 points in the win.

Doniphan 58, Sikeston 42

The Donettes got off to a solid start with a SEMO Conference victory over the Lady Bulldogs.

Erin Pennington led Doniphan (1-0) with a gamehigh 18 points.

"I thought she was gonna have to carry a lot offensively and she had 18 points and did a lot of the dirty work," Doniphan coach Brad Phillips said.

Sikeston (0-1) faced a 25-19 deficit at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs came out strong though in the third quarter and pulled to within four points at the end of three quarters. But Doniphan pulled away for good late in the game, outscoring Sikeston 14-3.

"I thought our intensity was great defensively," Phillips added. "I though that overall for the first game we've played it went well."

Kadie Civils added 14 points for the Donettes and Cassey Hart had seven.
