BLOOMFIELD -- The top-seeded Bernie Mules looked like they wanted to shed No. 16-seed East Carter real fast and did just so Friday morning in the first game of the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament.

The Mules outscored the Redbirds 34-5 in the first quarter and went on and hit the century mark with the 100-30 victory.

Bernie junior Jake Owens scored 11 of his game-high 28 points in the first quarter to pace the Mules while senior Zach Curry netted seven of his nine points.

Bernie implemented the full-court press from the start as East Carter had trouble in the first half getting the ball across the timeline.

The Mules led by 58 at the half as the Mules scored 38 points in the second quarter. Owens once again had the team-high in the quarter with 10 more points.

The second half was much of the same as Bernie came out and dominated on both sides of the floor.

The Redbirds were outscored 20-6 as the Mules went into the fourth quarter with 92 points.

The Redbirds took the fourth quarter, 10-8 as Miles Collins and Issiah Yates combined on five field goals, mostly on fastbreak layups.

Playing mostly reserves in the second half, the Mules eclipsed the century-mark with less than a minute to play on a Daniel Becking 2-pointer.

Overall, the Mules had three players in double figures. Jordan McGowan added 17, all in the first half, and Jake Smith added 14 points. Nine Mules scored on the game.

East Carter was led by Yates with eight points, six of which were scored in the fourth quarter.
