BCT Game 6: Royals roll past Green Wave

BLOOMFIELD -- A lot of talking did a whole lot of good for Twin Rivers.

After a disappointing loss on the road at Clearwater last Friday, Royals coach Rob Brown didn't feel his team was living up to what they could be.

On Friday against Malden in the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament, the Royals had the look of a different team as they burned past the Green Wave, 72-26.

"We had a lot of long heart-to-heart talks," Brown said. "We discussed our roles a little bit better and team play. We probably had more team meetings then we had practices for a couple days there."

Twin Rivers (4-4) looked strong on defense as they held the Green Wave to just 13 first-half points and 22 points through three quarters. The Royals used their size to their advantage rebounding-wise.

"That was one of things we stressed was we wanted to get out and run fastbreak," Brown said. "In order to out-run, you have to out-rebound. If we want to run that style and play uptempo we have to get stops and you have to control the boards."

Twin Rivers showed balanced scoring early and throughout the game. Nine different players combined on 20 points in the first quarter, only Kyle Oberkramer, had more than three points in the frame.

From 2:21 left in the first quarter until 4:45 left in the second, Twin Rivers pulled away by scoring 18 straight points to extend its lead to 28-7.

The Royals began the third quarter with a 20-2 run to take a 41 point lead.

Kyle Oberkramer and Brett Whitlock each finished with 11 points for Twin Rivers.

Malden had just four players score with Quentin Jackson and Andy Matthews each netting nine points apiece.

Twin Rivers will face upset-minded Van Buren, who defeated the No.3-seed Kennett Indians earlier in the day.

"Van Buren is a very scrappy team," Brown said. "They shoot the 3-ball very well, they handle the ball well. We need to apply pressure to hopefully turn over the ball."

The teams will meet approximately 7 p.m. Saturday night.
