FINAL: Drew Thomas scores 33, leads Braves past Notre Dame

Drew Thomas scored 33 points to lead the Scott County Central Braves to an 80-62 victory against Notre Dame in the championship game of the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament.

Thomas, who finished with 122 points in four games to lead all tournament scorers, hit four of Scott County Central's five 3-pointers.

Bobby Hatchett added 17 points, Randy Timmons scored 15 and Otto Porter had seven. Those three players joined Thomas on the all-tournament team. Desmin Williams added eight points for Scott County Central.

The championship was Scott County Central's first in the tournament since 1990. The small-school state powerhouse with 12 titles from the late 1970s to early 1990s won the tournament three times in that span (1979, 1987 and 1990) and one prior to that in 1967.

They had lost to Notre Dame in the quarterfinals last year when Notre Dame went on to win the Class 4 state title and the Braves finished third in Class 1.

The Braves led just 16-13 after one period but rolled up 24 points in the second period for a 40-28 halftime lead. The advantage was stretched out to 25, 69-44, with just over 6 minutes left but Notre Dame went on a 16-1 run and had possession to get inside double figures before Scott Central erupted for the next seven points and pulled away for the win.

Austin Greer led Notre Dame with 27, while Alex Bader added 12.

drew thomas #23 this is the best game i saw him play this year, this is one of drew thomas christmas presents, winning the christmas tournament, notre dame their ball players where thirsty they down those 3' but scc where hungry, when i say hungry the whole team where even the coach (oh yea) the fans where too,good job braves, people want know how we do it come to one of our games.
