ROUNDUP: Fast start, defense lifts Naylor past Neelyville

NEELYVILLE -- Naylor held host Neelyville to 14 first-half points for a 62-32 win in Ozark Foothills Conference play Friday night.

Travis Thomas scored a game-high 21 points for the Eagles, who led 31-14 at halftime. Cody Hanner added 16 points while Ethan Woolard chipped in 13 for Naylor (5-5, 1-0 OFC)

Curtis Hansen led Neelyville (4-5, 1-2) with 13 points.

Naylor's defense was solid throughout the game as it held the Tigers to 11-of-40 shooting from the field.

Bloomfield 73, Gideon 54 The Wildcats pulled away with a 25-14 fourth quarter to get a win Friday night.

Leighton Hensley had 32 points to lead Bloomfield.

The solid fourth was a contrast to the first quarter for the Wildcats, who were outscored 16-13.

"Early on it was shot selection instead of running our stuff," Bloomfield coach Dustin Hicks said. "We were coming down and taking quick jumpers."

The Wildcats rotated 10 players in the game and it paid off late.

"We really pulled away and it was a lot to do with conditioning (in the fourth)," Hicks said.

Dexter 83, Woodland 53

Drew Kelley and Alan Flannigan each scored 18 points to lead the Bearcats on Homecoming Night.

Dexter scored the first 10 points of the game by forcing eight straight turnovers and led 41-36 at halftime. The Bearcats outscored Woodland 27-8 in the final quarter.

Jon Bowman added 14 points for Dexter (5-7, 1-0 SCAA).

Kyle Reynolds scored 21 points for Woodland.

Clarkton 71, South Pemiscot 43

Dustin Ferguson had 19 points as Reindeer moved past South Pemiscot on Friday night.

"We played a lot better (Friday) night," Clarkton coach Scott Blackburn said. "Our transition defense was better and we matchup pretty well."

Justin Brown had 15 for the Reindeer, Jordan Jones had 14 while Jacob and Casey Redden each added 10 points.

"We moved the ball around well and everyone got touches," Blackburn said. "At different points, different players stepped up."

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Clearwater 46, Eminence 45

After a slow start in the first quarter, the Lady Tigers kept it consistent the rest of the game to take the win over the Lady Redwings.

Clearwater held Emience to just four points in the second quarter to take a one point lead into halftime.

Emily Miller, Lindsay Bell and Lesilie Smith carried the offensive load in the decisive fourth quarter for Clearwater. Miller scored seven of her nine points in the final frame while Bell scored six of her team-high 13 points. Smith scored five of her seven including a 3-pointer in the quarter.
