2009-10 East Carter Boys Basketball Preview

Head Coach: Preston Hoagland, 3rd year (1-37)

Last Season: 1-17 (lost to South Iron in Class 2 district quarters)

District: Class 2 District 4 at Van Buren (Bismarck, South Iron, Ellington, Valley, Viburnum, Winona).

Last district title: 2004

Key Returners: John Ziegler and Daniel Stromatt

Overview: After just one win in the past two seasons, East Carter hasn't given up on returning the program back into a winning one. The Redbirds will keep fighting in 2009-10.

"We're not gonna be amazing," Hoagland said. "Some of them are still learning the game."

Hoagland's squad, who's lone win came over Bunker last season, returns just a couple key contributors from last season's team in Ziegler who averaged 10 points per game as well as Stromatt who is 6-foot senior forward and a good athlete.

"Stomatt has improved a lot," Hoagland said. "Ziegler can shoot it. He's got a lot stronger and physically fit."

From the bottom up, things are getting brighter for the Redbirds. The JV team went 9-9 last year and Hoagland will move up Josh Louis and Dustin Nichols who were key contributors from that team.

"We're gonna have to move the ball and get down the floor," Hoagland said.
