2009-10 East Carter Girls Basketball Preview

Head Coach: Missy Cox, 2nd year (0-19)

Last Season: 0-19 (lost to Viburnum in Class 2 district quarters)

District: Class 2 District 4 at Van Buren (Bismarck, South Iron, Ellington, Valley, Viburnum)

Last district title: 1999

Key Returners: Mariah Randazzo, Melissa Stucker, Lindsay Crowley, Molly Freeze

Overview: East Carter has only won one game in the past two seasons but second year coach Cox feels as if her team might be better prepared this season.

"I think our work ethic this year is a lot better," Cox said. "My assistant and I have worked hard to restructure our practices so its a lot faster pace.

Cox wasn't sure who might pace the team's offense this early but she returns leaders in Randazzo and Stucker. Crowley also had a fine season last year playing as a freshman.

What might hinder East Carter compared to other local teams is the lack of expierence. The Lady Redbirds have no seniors this year but will have help from their younger players who were 12-6 and won the BRL title in 8th grade.

"We have a couple tall freshman who we are looking to be strong," Cox said.

Courtney Marler is listed at 5-foot-10 while fellow freshman Faith Eaves and Kelen Smith are 5-9.
