2009-10 Chaffee Girls Basketball Preview

After having coached the Chaffee boys for four years, Tyson Moyers returns for his second stint as the girls coach.

Moyers, who coached the girls team in the 2003-2004 season, takes over a program that struggled to win last year.

Moyers inherits a roster that is long on guards and short on height.

"We do have a little bit of quickness, and we'll try to use it to our advantage on both ends of the floor," Moy ers said. "We don't have any height at all."

Chaffee's two returning starters are senior guards Taylor Kirchdoerfer and Anna Ayers. The team returns three other players with varsity experience, and all three are guards -- juniors Hannah Bedwell and Randy Wiley and sophomore Sierra Miller.

While there is not much size, the personnel does suit Moyers' preferred up-tempo style.

"In the past, I liked to press a little bit," Moyers said. "I really like to get the ball up the floor quickly and try to score some easy baskets."

Chaffee's tallest player is 5-foot-7 junior center Liz Schlosser, who played JV as a freshman but did not play her sophomore year.

Sophomore Taylor Fodge and freshmen Adrienne Eichhorn, Hailey Enderle and Ellie Sigman also figure to see some playing time.

"The freshmen and sophomore adds to our depth a little bit," Moyers said. "We should be deep enough to be able to [play up-tempo]."

Moyers said Ayers, who has played varsity since her freshman season, and Eichhorn both handle the ball well. He added that Ayers and Kirchdoerfer, who played full seasons with the varsity the past two years, are the team's best pure shooters.

"I think we have some girls that can rebound and play defense," Moyers said. "You can't run unless you rebound, and hopefully we force people into turnovers and score some points that way. We're not a team that will pass eight times before we shoot."
