2009-10 Eagle Ridge Boys Basketball Preview

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

Coming off the first state title in program history, the Eagle Ridge Christian boys basketball team is taking aim at a repeat.

With three starters returning, including the top two scorers, coach Andrew Mellies believes a second straight championship is a realistic possibility.

"I think we do have a good chance," Mellies said. "We lost a couple of starters, but the boys who came back have gotten a lot better. They've worked hard. And some guys who came off the bench last year have gotten better.

"It seems every year once guys leave there are certain kids that step up. We really stress team ball and we just want to be playing our best ball at the end of the season."

That happened last year as the Eagles capped their 17-10 campaign by capturing the Missouri Christian Schools Athletic Association Class 3A state crown.

"When we went into the season I knew we would have a good year, and as the season progressed I thought we could do it," Mellies said. "They were real focused going into the state tournament."
