Nothing too exciting this week. Kind of surprised to see Whitfield is ranked with 8 losses, but NMCC isn't getting any consideration.

I thought Notre Dame would go up in the rankings after they defeated Scott County Central.

A little confused why NMCC isnt ranked but the game against SCC could change all of that. Also how does ND not go higher after beating SCC. I do realize they are a class 1 school but they are a very good team that Notre Dame beat in the house Ronnie built.

In regards to ND's ranking...I'm not really shocked that they didn't move up. They picked up a good win, but that doesn't necessarily mean they should pass up any of the teams above them. I could see them moving up in the next couple weeks...I read an article that said a couple O'Hara players were suspended (did not say for how long). If these were impact players, O'Hara may end up dropping a few spots. I can't see Borgia being anyhere but #1 for the rest of the season. Sikeston could possible drop a spot or two if they lose their upcoming matchups with NMCC or Bluff, but assuming they win these 2 games, I imagine they'll finish the season at #2.

Dang ND girls took a big jump up the board, i guess a st louis tournament title has something to do with that.

U made a good point farmboy. haha a part of me wonders since the central game hadnt been played yet they didnt want to give them to much credit and then ND get upset again. I wonder what caliber of teams Kearney, O'Hara, and Soldan play against. Do u think they are equal to or tougher than what ND has faced so far this year?

Soldan - Has a win against Cardinal Ritter (good Class 3 team) and beat Berkeley by 8 (Notre Dame beat Berkeley by 13. Not that comparing scores is always correct, but it's the best indicator I have at this point). They do have what I would call a bad loss to Maplewood, who is not nearly the team they were last year (Maplewood lost to Jackson by 7 earlier this year). Other than that they don't seem to have anybody out of the ordinary on their schedule.

O'Hara - One of their losses was by 2 points to Bishop Miege, who is ranked #1 in the large schools in the KC area. They don't seem to have any bad losses, but I don't see any wins that really stand out (although I'm not as familiar with KC area basketball).

Kearney - Handed Raymore-Peculiar (#2 in Class 5) their only loss on the season thus far, 44-31. Kearney's only loss is to a 10-10 team, so it's not terrible, but it's not a 'quality loss' either.

All the teams seem to be winning the games they should win by convincing margins. I wish I knew a little more about who's who in KC. You and I both know Sikeston and ND have both played pretty tough schedules for this area, but people in KC very well might not know who Poplar Bluff or NMCC are. I based my opinions on what teams Kearney, O'Hara, and Soldan had played that were either state ranked or ranked in the KC area poll, so they could have played other solid teams who aren't necessarily ranked high.

Wow thank you very much farm. Did you ever findout who those two players were that got suspended from O'Hara?

-- Posted by whipperwheel_36 on Wed, Feb 3, 2010, at 9:39 PM

ND and Soldan are basically interchangeable, one spot really means nothing, and the other two 4 loss teams have GIGANTIC wins in Class 5, so i cant really disagree, thanks for the info farmboy.

KC area basketball is good they seem to have a team at state every year in Class 4, and they are always very competitive(i havent been to state in two years but that was my observation then)

No problem.

O'Hara starters TJ White and Aaron Stubblefield have been suspended since January 18. The article I read says they are "currently not on the basketball team." White was averaging 12 a game. O'Hara beat Rockhurst by 20 when both these starters were playing, then lost by 1 in overtime after they were suspended.

I have watched Borgia play several times and they are very good. Having said this, I think that whoever comes out of district 1 (Sikeston or ND) will give them a heck of a game. I don't see Borgia's recent ranking in the top 30 teams in the US. Their best win is against Chaminade who is ranked 9th in class 5 and I would not say that their schedule is particularly difficult.

I'm a Sikeston fan, man both bulldog teams are playing great. I'm not feeling too confident about the Bulldog/Bulldog district final though. Sikeston is awesome at creating much chaos and havoc and they just eventually overwhelm the opponent with athleticism and quickness. The bluedogs don't seem to be bothered by this approach, they are the only team that Sikeston hasn't been able to rattle this year. The district final should be awesome but I hate to say that ND should be able to pull it out if they keep their composure. Both teams are incredible, but Borgia is unbeatable!!

Richland might get knocked out of the top ten in class 1 after losing to Bloomfield last week, also the Scott City girls might get some recognition after beating Delta the number 8 team in class 1.

On a side note does anyone know who Whitfield has played, surely all 8 of losses can't be to top ranked caliber teams, that's the only way they should be in there still? I mean NMCC and Charleston both would have a better record against these teams, a .600 record doesn't usually constitute a top ten ranking. On this sight (Semoball) it might not even get you a top 25 ranking.
