Meredith, Hosket represent Southeast Missouri State football as OVC players of the week
Juniors Chad Meredith and Jesse Hosket represented the Southeast Missouri State football team as the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week, respectively, after Saturday’s 21-14 win over 13th-ranked Eastern Illinois at Houck Stadium.
Meredith, a 6-foot-5 outside linebacker, finished with a game-high 12 tackles, including eight solo stops, in leading a Redhawks defense that gave up only one offensive touchdown against the Panthers. He provided a crucial pass breakup on third-and-16 during the fourth quarter, allowing Southeast to force a turnover on downs on the following play.
Hosket, who transferred from East Central Community College, played a part in all three of the Redhawks’ scoring plays, including a 1-yard TD run on fourth-and-goal in the first quarter. The 6-foot-5 quarterback finished 12-of-20 (60 percent) passing for 223 yards with one touchdown and no turnovers. He also added 16 yards rushing on five carries. Hosket has thrown for 200 or more yards in four straight games and is one of three OVC quarterbacks with over 1,000 yards passing this season. His 1,076 yards through the air ranks him 24th nationally.
Murray State quarterback KD Humphries earned honors as the Offensive Player of the Week, while Tennessee State kicker Lane Clark was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
