Southeast Missouri State football's Marquis Terry garners OVC weekly honors
Southeast Missouri State football standout Marquis Terry was named adidas Ohio Valley Conference Co-Newcomer of the Week on Sunday.
The 5-foot-6, 179-pound junior running back had 31 carries for 184 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Redhawks to a 29-10 win Saturday over Eastern Kentucky.
The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for Southeast (1-4, 1-1 OVC), dating back to last season, and was the fourth all-time victory in 28 contests against EKU.
Terry, a transfer from Highland Community College in Kansas, ranks fifth nationally in total rushing yards (540) and 11th in rushing (108 yards per game) and rushing TDs (five). He scored on a 4-yard run in the second quarter and crossed the goal line from 1 yard out for his second TD with 4:52 remaining in the game.
Terry, who was also named the College Sports Madness OVC Offensive Player of the Week, joins Eastern Illinois quarterback Scott Gilkey (Offensive and Co-Newcomer), Austin Peay defensive end Jaison Williams (Co-Defensive), EIU linebacker Nick Horne (Co-Defensive) and Tennessee State kicker Lane Clark (Specialist) as this week's OVC honorees.
