Tigers shut out South Pemiscot
NEELYVILLE — The Neelyville Tigers shut out the South Pemiscot Bulldogs 3-0 in baseball Tuesday night on a combined no-hitter.
Tiger starter Zak Cowley went five innings without giving up a hit, with reliever Hixon Layton earning the save with two more innings of no-hit baseball.
Cowley helped his own cause with two hits and a run scored. No RBIs were earned, as two Neelyville runs crossed the plate on a Bulldog error, with the third scoring on a fielder’s choice.
Neelyville improved their season record to 2-8, while South Pemiscot fell to 2-11. Bulldog pitcher Brayden Bomar took the loss, pitching all six innings.
Portageville 9, Twin Rivers 1
At Portageville, the Twin Rivers Royals fell to 8-3 after losing on Tuesday on the road to the Portageville Bulldogs, who improved to 14-5.
Portageville scored two runs in the first, five in the second, and added single tallies in the third and sixth innings. The Bulldogs’ leading hitters were Conner Johnson, who went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and Carson Bradley, who had three RBIs on two hits.
Bradley was also the starting pitcher for the Bulldogs, giving up no runs on two hits in three innings. Johnson followed him in relief, allowing one run on five hits.
Twin Rivers’ lone RBI came from Carter Williams, who went two for four at the plate. Luke Hester gave up seven runs on four hits in 1.2 innings on the mound. Bryce Dollins relieved Hester in the second inning and completed the game giving up two runs on four hits.
SOFTBALL
Clearwater 17, Naylor 2
At Piedmont, the Clearwater Lady Tigers used an 11-run third inning to end their softball game at home against the Naylor Lady Eagles on Tuesday.
Seven Lady Tigers had multiple RBI performances, with three players driving in three runs each. Six runs came in the second inning, with 11 coming in the third to end the game at that point.
Both of Naylor’s RBIs came from Alexis Holcomb, who went two for two at the plate. Holcomb also took the loss, giving up six runs in the second. Reliever Peyton Hopkins surrendered 11 runs on four hits and nine walks.
Clearwater improved their season record to 7-2, while Naylor dropped to 2-7.
Doniphan 13, Senath-Hornersville 3
At Doniphan, the host Donettes raised their spotless softball record to 9-0 with a win over the Senath-Hornersville Lady Lions on Tuesday.
The game was close for the first five innings, with Doniphan leading 5-3 at the end of the third. After two scoreless innings, the Donettes scored eight times to claim the victory after six innings.
Kensey Davis went the distance on the mound for the Donettes, giving up three runs on five hits against three strikeouts and one walk.
Seven Donettes hitters contributed RBIs, with Peyton Lowery, Micha Burton, and Paige Wilson each notching two RBIs. Doniphan had 12 hits total in the game.
Neelyville 10, Portageville 3
At Neelyville, the host Lady Tigers defeated the Portageville Lady Bulldogs in a softball matchup on Tuesday.
The Lady Tigers benefited from a strong pitching performance from September Preslar, who went the distance, giving up three runs on four hits with 11 strikeouts against two walks.
Preslar managed to scatter the Lady Bulldogs scoring with single runs in the third, fifth, and sixth innings. Neelyville, on the other hand, scored two in the second and third innings before putting up six decisive runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Leading the Lady Tigers from the plate were catcher Parker Ernst, who went three for four with three RBIs and a home run, and outfielder Nicole Akers, who had two RBIs.
Neelyville moves to 3-1 on the season, while Portageville drops to 8-6.
