Senath-Hornersville baseball team bounces back after tough loss

SENATH, Mo. - The Senath-Hornersville varsity baseball team came into the game South Pemiscot Saturday afternoon still stinging a little after a tough-luck loss Thursday at the hands of Campbell 1-0.

But the Lions were determined to take their frustrations out on the South Pemiscot Bulldogs and defeated the Dawgs 10-6.

The Bulldogs team suffered most of the year at 2-11, losing nine of the last 10, struggled to score runs and their pitching and defensive woes yielded a wagon-load of runs.

Senath sent eleven men to the plate in the second.

Amadore Luna tripled, Christian Small singled, (2-4 on the day with 3 RBIs), Chase Laden doubled, a walk by Christian Garza and the second walk of the inning to Luna (on base three times) resulted in six runs for Senath and the score ballooned to 7-1.

The pitching woes continued for South Pemiscot, issuing 12 walks, allowing 10 runs (two unearned) on six hits, facing 37 batters, in six innings.

After throwing 91 pitches, Noah Rhodes was relieved by Christian Garza, who while struggling with his control and a couple of teammates' errors (five in all), along with some misplays and overthrows, allowed South Pemiscot to make the game appear closer than it really was by giving up two runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Senath posted the W, 10-6.

Noah Rhodes earned the win for Senath-Hornersville, surrendering seven hits and four runs (one earned), over five innings, striking out six and walking only two.

Christian Garza appeared in relief for Senath-Hornersville and pitched the final two innings, but was not eligible for a save.

Brayden Bomar took the loss for South Pemiscot going two innings, surrendering seven runs (only one earned) on three hits, striking out only one and issuing five walks.

South Pemiscot's relief pitcher Logan Southern did not fare much better. Southern pitched four innings, gave up three runs (two earned), seven walks and struck out five.

South Pemiscot did amass nine hits and steal eight bases, but had one runner thrown out at the plate and several others caught stealing.

Senath-Hornersville, now 10-4, travels to Portageville to play the Bulldogs on at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Lions have one more regular-season game scheduled at Twin Rivers on April 25, then begin the Bootheel Conference Tournament April 27-May 3.

South Pemiscot, now 2-12, next scheduled game is Senior Day at home on April 22 against Hayti.
