Rekha Patterson resigns as Redhawks WBB head coach
Southeast Missouri State announced on Friday the resignation of women’s head basketball coach Rekha Patterson on Friday.
The Redhawks finished ninth in the Ohio Valley Conference with a 9-20 record (6-12 conference) and were a game behind Tennessee State for the eighth and final spot in the OVC Tournament.
Patterson compiled a 126-142 record in nine years as head coach of the Redhawks. Under her leadership, SEMO won the 2020 OVC Tournament championship but could not participate in the NCAA Tournament due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She was voted the 2019-20 OVC Coach of the Year as well.
SEMO was the first head coaching job of Patterson’s career. She arrived to Cape Girardeau after serving as the Ball State associate head coach in 2013-15.
Patterson’s coaching career began as a graduate assistant (2002-04) at Baylor. She then served as an assistant coach at Eastern Illinois (2004-06) and Creighton (2006-08) before returning to Baylor in 2009-13. at Baylor.
Patterson’s resignation comes after the program announced the arrival of DI transfers Rain Green (UMKC), Jaela Johnson (Bellarmine), Kennedy Claybrooks (Texas State).
