Former Poplar Bluff Mules standout Kameron Misner is headed to the major leagues.

Misner was called up by the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday from Triple-A Durham. The news was confirmed by Misner’s father, Terry, and Poplar Bluff High School athletic director Kent Keith.

Misner will join the Rays in Houston, where they will begin a three-game series Friday with the Astros.

Local fans might get the chance to see Misner play closer to home next week, when the Rays play a three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals Aug. 6-8.

Misner played baseball and football for the Mules from 2013-16, then played baseball at the University of Missouri in Columbia for three seasons before being drafted by the Miami Marlins in 2019. He was traded to the Rays after the 2021 season.

This season, Misner was batting .247 with 15 homers, 45 RBIs and 27 stolen bases at Durham.
