Lady Mules tennis wins opener

CAPE GIRARDEAU — The Poplar Bluff Lady Mules tennis team turned in a strong performance in Tuesday’s season opener at Cape Central to take a 6-3 win over the Lady Tigers.

In singles action, Kaitlyn Booker (8-0), Molly Maurer (8-6), Hannah Kee (8-2) and Hannah Wiseman (8-2) all earned wins. In doubles action, Booker and Maurer recorded an 8-2 win, while Elleanna Wiseman and Meaghan Popp won 8-1.

“Varsity came out hard,” Poplar Bluff coach Michelle Massey said. “Molly Maurer was down 2-5 and came back to win. I’m very proud of how all the girls played.”

In junior varsity action, the Lady Mules won 14-0.

Poplar Bluff makes its home debut Thursday when the Lady Mules host Saxony Lutheran in a 4 p.m. contest.
